“I am done. I can’t take it anymore. I badly need a
break!” I told my husband.
“When I was
boarding a crowded local train at 6:30pm, cramped at the door, literally
fighting to get inside and guess what… ‘I got an idea’.
When I was making roties for tiffin, I got my idea.
When I was doing weekly grocery shopping in a crowded
supermarket, I got an idea.
When I dropped my girl to school & was walking
all the way home, I got a new idea.
You know what; I am so full of ideas (really?).”
I continued,
“The only thing I need is some peace & a break
from this noisy & crowded schedule.
I will be able to think about many new things
& work more efficiently. I need a break” I demanded.
My husband is very cooperative. He agreed.
We planned it.
And I was off on a three day outing in a peaceful
and serene natural environment.
They say good ideas come early in the morning.
So I got up at 4 am. I was feeling fresh &
charged.
I took out my new notebook & pen.
And started waiting for amazing ideas…
Gosh! I found myself sleeping in the bed till
10:00 am.
How did that happened?
Ok. No issues. It’s all because ‘I was so damn tired’,
I convinced myself.
I had my breakfast & coffee.
And again took out my new notebook & pen.
And started waiting for ideas…No luck.
I did my workout & had my lunch.
Again took out my new notebook & pen.
And started waiting for ideas…
No clue of any sort of idea.
No disturbance, no cooking, no catching bus or
train.
No phone calls or internet. No disturbance at all.
Perfect ambience, as I was always craving for a
long.
I prayed to all sorts of creative angels /gods to
shower me with some sort of wisdom & let me get some new ideas. Nothing was
coming out.
Something strange was happening.
It continued for the whole three days…till the end
of my break.
The new book was full with lot of scribbling but
no content/strategies or any sort of a plan.
I indeed had a great break.
I felt relaxed & all.
But the main purpose was defeated.
My claim of being full of ideas was an empty
bubble of imagination which blasted brutally.
What went wrong?
Normally I get ideas when I am at these weird
places but why not at such a peaceful place & relaxed mind? I never
expected that. It puzzled me.
I started wondering “Where do good ideas come
from?”
I heard these thousands of times & I am sure you too had!
“I am just
looking for a good idea before I start my business”
“I need new ideas to send this free content every
week?
“I am good at conducting workshop/seminars but how
do I get ideas every now & then?”
“I want a good idea for my new products or
marketing strategies or business model”
True! Innovation is an integral part of entrepreneurship.
We need ideas almost every day to create content, get
new customers, marketing, branding, positioning & a lot more…
But the biggest question is “Where good ideas come
from?”
We all heard stories about Newton and an apple or
Archimedes jumping out of his bathtub shouting ‘Eureka! Eureka!’
But how many times does that happen with us?
Here is my learning.
Idea is not a single thing. It is a chain of
thoughts.
We meet new people, listen them talking,
understand them, experience their emotions & the whole process gives birth
to a chain of thoughts.
And then there is this apple on head or Eureka
moment when all these thoughts come together to produce a brand new idea.
It never happens like a flash of light.
So what went wrong in my case?
This noisy & crowded schedule I was talking
about, is my true power source which initiates ideas.
When I hear people speaking in the train, when I create
those fabulous rotis, when I experience the people behaviour in a supermarket or
the self-realization while walking back home- empower me with creativity.
They are my true source of energy.
So when I actually sit down to write, my ideas are
ready.
They keep blooming with my day to day activities.
And the exact problem was... I got away from my
power source.
The important thing is to realize what your power source
is?
Many of the times we stop looking inside &
look for external sources for ideas & waste loads of time waiting for some
magic to happen.
Or waste loads of time waiting for the perfect time,
enough money, peaceful schedule or perfect weight (when I will be 62kg… I will…)
which never happens.
Stop that today! Have a look somewhere deep in
your heart.
Look for
that power source which generates your ideas.
Trust me! That power source already exists and is waiting
for you to switch it on.
And once you switch that on the magic will begin.
That’s all at my end.
Now it is your turn. What about you?
Have you already found that power source? If yes
then I would love to know about it.
